Research

The research in our lab aims at developing new methods and instruments of high-throughput experiments for characterizing multiscale biological systems. Broadly speaking, we do researches in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. We are focusing on several areas:

Network - By employing omics technology and data, we are reversely engineering transcriptional regulatory networks, protein-DNA, protein-RNA and protein-protein interaction networks in cells for delineating the functional relationship and information flow in biological complex systems.

Structure - At single residue resolution, we are trying to elucidate the sequence and structure patterns of these functional elements underlying these regulatory interactions, and decipher some structural mechanisms of molecular cooperation.

Dynamics - We are revealing some dynamics and biomarkers or signatures of networks and structures in various cell states, such as differentiation, development, disease and other internal or external stimuli and perturbation.

Biography

Zhi-Ping Liu obtained his B.S. in 2002 and M.S. in 2005 in Mathematics from Shandong University, and a Ph.D. from Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008. He received his postdoctoral trainings in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from Osaka Sangyo University, Japan and University of Rochester, USA. From 2010 to 2013, he worked at Key Laboratory of Systems Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences as an Associate Professor. Since September 2013, he returned to Shandong University. Currently, he is a Professor of Biomedical Informatics.
